Images of Remembrance Sunday in Towneley Park, near to my home and the Deerpond, my special places.
The monument depicts the Sailor, the Soldier and the Airman, representing the armed forces. The grieving mothers, wives, sisters and daughters are depicted at the foot of the monument.
Photographs cannot do justice to the beauty of this monument.
A solitary figure pays his respects to the fallen in the grounds of Towneley Hall.
My grandfather's brother Jimmy died in 1917 in Paschendaele. On a trip to the WW1 battlefields, my cousin and I were the first in the family to find his grave at Perth China Wall Cemetary (so named as the trenches were so extensive, they were likened to the Great Wall of China).
Footnote: As our next brief considers the properties of natural and man-made elements and objects, when looking at the remembrance cross I note that the poppy, representing the natural botanical form, is completely man-made using materials such as plastic and paper. The crosses are made from wood, a natural material then formed by machine into the shape of a cross.
