My interest was aroused by a small article in the Sunday newspaper regarding an animation which was exhibited at the Clark Institute Gallery in Massachusetts. The animation artist is Jennifer Steinkamp.
The theme of the exhibition was to reflect on the relationship between art and nature. In Steinkamp's animation "Blind Eye" she uses the white and grey birches on the wooded paths around the Institute.
"Simultaneously disorientating and tranquil, the colourful moving images add texture and light . . Like living wallpaper or tapestries woven from code - obviously simulated yet full of natural forms - Steinkamp's Oliver Meslay, foreword "Blind Eye"
I find this work fascinating and mesmerising, it got me thinking . . .what if I took photographs of the same group of trees every week for a year, could I put them together in a similar way as a backdrop to a birch forest ceramic installation? Possible links to other MA departments?
