A visit to Hanley Museum

I have an abiding interest in the natural world and the forest floor in particular. Over the past year I have been making natural forms including large horse chestnuts and their shells. On the group visit to Hanley Museum, I saw an exhibit of a large trio of conkers by Peter Higgs. I realised that my large conker forms are clumsy and crude by comparison. I have decided to make smaller and more delicate natural forms aiming for more refinement in my work.

"Representation of organic forms reflects the importance of the soil and the elements of nature which contribute to the world around us." Peter Higgs, 2011
